Baishakhi’s story

Baishakhi Kandar

Growing up with the responsibility of her mother, who has no one else to be with, Baishaki found a getaway from her burdens, in the form of an illegal migrant from Bangladesh.

On 25th June 2016, Baishaki decided to elope away to Bangladesh with the man, without contemplating the consequences of her decision.

Her mother eventually lodged a report at the Gosaba police station, by the very evening. After failures on part of the police to come to any concrete evidence of Baishaki’s whereabouts, Sri Shaktipada Mondal of Samadhan chose to be a part of Baishaki’s rescue mission.

Soon, Sri Mondal and Bangladesh National Woman Lawyer’s Association, discovered that Baishaki was a minor, which helped them to send her to a shelter home in Bangladesh.

Currently, the Ministry of External Affairs is looking into the matter and has promised to bring Baishaki back soon.
