Sarita’s Story

Sarita,

A resident of Nirmal Nagar Colony of Sitarganj in Uttarakhand, Sarita (name changed) came from an extremely poor family of three sisters and two brothers.

When she was 14 and in the ninth grade, she met a boy from Moipith of South 24 Pargans, West Bengal and the young boy soon fell in love. He eventually convinced her to elope with him, and unknowingly enter into the dark, sinister world of human flesh trade. After being exploited and abused for weeks, help came in an unusual form; the  father of the boy decided to intervene and let her family know about her whereabouts, before she was lost forever.

Soon the Child Welfare Committee of Uttarakhand along with Child Line and our partner NGO took it in their stride to rescue Sarita. After tremendous effort, today Sarita is home safe and with her family. It is unnerving to even imagine what would have become of Sarita if she had not been rescued.

Is this the price a girl should have to pay for her innocence? For trusting a friend? How many other girls out there did not get the same chance as her to escape?
